Truck Drivers:
Who they really are and what they really do?
The public has a lot of misperceptions about truckdrivers, and truckers have told me that their lifestyle and safety would be greatly enhanced if the public had greater knowledge and understanding of trucking and truck drivers.
For example, contrary to what the US Department of Labor maintains, professional and successful truck drivers need mental intelligence, skill, knowledge and emotional intelligence.
I've heard many new entrants into the field declare:
" I never knew there was so much to trucking; I thought it was just driving down the road and that anyone could do it."
Additionally, trucking is an unkind industry that is ladened with government legislation, burdensome rules, long hours, poor planning, archaic management styles, and too many people on power trips
Yet, year after year, our truckers nobly bring us the things we need & want.
And most importantly, most of them do it so honorably that we have the confidence to get into our vehicles and join them on the highways.
And despite the demands of time, they still get involved and help others.
How do they do it?
What is life on the road like?
How do they train and prepare themselves?
What are their ingredients for success?
How do they emotionally handle this career?
What advice do they have for us?
What are their talents and interests?
Who are their families
What do they need?
What can we do for them?
The KnightTime series of broadcasts brings together truck drivers and others in the industry to answer these questions.
